Today, I'm diving into a topic that baffles some organizations - How to be respectful and engaging when it comes to “VIP” days.
1. Navigating the Holiday Minefield First things first, let's talk about religious holidays. My take? It's all or nothing. Either give a shout-out to every major holiday from every religion or steer clear altogether. Remember, not every significant holiday falls in December, and by acknowledging this diversity, you're showing respect to a big audience. Personally, I never post about a religious holiday and it has more to do with algorithms than anything else (see point #2). 2. The Non-Religious Holiday Dilemma Now, about those non-religious holidays... While it's tempting to jump on the bandwagon, remember that everyone else is doing the same. Your post about New Year's Eve or Valentine's Day might just get lost in the noise. Plus, a dip in views on these days can mess with your social media algorithms. So, maybe think twice before posting that generic "Happy Thanksgiving!" graphic along with MILLIONS of others. 3. Embrace the Obscure and Fun Here's where it gets exciting! I absolutely love highlighting those lesser-known days of recognition. Imagine you're running an ice cream shop – why not celebrate National Ice Cream Day with a fun post? Or if you're a massage therapist, make some noise during National Massage Therapy Week. These posts aren't just entertaining; they're educational and can set your business apart. 4. Celebrate Your Team and Milestones Lastly, let's not forget about personal celebrations like birthdays and anniversaries. Posting staff birthdays with a snapshot of the office celebration adds a personal touch to your brand. And business anniversaries? Absolutely worth a post! It's a fantastic way to engage with your audience, showcase your business's growth, and thank your customers for their support. Wrapping Up So there you have it – a few ideas to keep your social media fresh, inclusive, and engaging. Whether you're celebrating the well-known, the obscure, or the milestones within your own business, there's always an opportunity to connect with your audience in a meaningful way. Happy posting! |
